Mr. May, whose confirmed post is that of Assistant Colonial Secretary, appointed a Cadet in 1881, and he has acted as Assistant Registrar General, in which appointment he acquired a considerable knowledge of the Chinese community and local Chinese affairs. We have throughout his career always given satisfaction in the discharge of his duties; he is active in his habits, and a very capable and conscientious officer. He is also a good Chinese scholar and commands the respect and confidence of the leaders of the Chinese community.
